This surprisingly tasty “Beyond Elderberry” Syrup was born out of a month-long battle with an upper respiratory infection that just would not go away. It wasn’t Covid (despite not having left the farm in months, I got tested twice just to be sure), but it had be absolutely laid out. After the first twelve days I gave in and took the prescribed antibiotics, but they didn’t even give me an ounce of relief. And that’s when I turned to nature.
Everybody and their mother knows about using Elderberry Syrup. What people DON’T realize is that not only is Elderberry just one of MANY wild medicinal herbs at our fingertips, it also ISN’T ALWAYS THE RIGHT ONE TO USE! Elderberry helps to put your immune system into overdrive. In many situations, and when you’re otherwise healthy, that’s exactly what you want. But in some circumstances that approach can overwhelm your immune system, drawing out your recovery and potentially even triggering a Cytokine Storm. After nearly a year of working without days off while under a great deal of stress, I decided that what my immune system needed was more of an “intensive support” approach, rather than the “massive kick in the pants” that Elderberry gives. So I chose a wide variety of herbs that have been proven to do just that!
After taking this syrup daily for a full week, I FINALLY woke up feeling like myself again. And while I have no proof that the herbs within this formula are the REASON I finally recovered, I DO know that my body benefited from them in general!
Each ingredient in this syrup was chosen due to its medicinal properties and how they directly bolster the immune system of someone who’s battling a cold or flu. I’m afraid it DOES contain a good deal of sugar, but in this case sugar is more than just a flavor enhancer/preservative. It also serves as the vital delivery system for the phytochemicals within the herbs!
